James A. Knight Award for Excellence in Humanities in Medicine

Dr. James A. Knight was the founding dean of the College of Medicine. This $500 award is given in honor of Dr. Knight whose life as a physician and medical educator modeled the highest standards of compassion and dedication to medicine. Dr. Knight strongly believed the future of medicine is dependent on the physician's capacity to blend the scientific and humanistic aspects of medical practice.

This award recognizes academic excellence in humanities in medicine, typically as manifested by superior performance in two or more of the following: the required first- and second-year Medical Humanities in Medicine (MHUM) courses, one or more first- or second-year MHUM electives, a fourth-year MHUM elective or non-course-related work in medical humanities.
