Dr. Charles W. Sanders joined the College of Medicine faculty in 1986. He is Chair of the Department of Humanities in Medicine and Chair of the College of Medicine Curriculum Committee. He is professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) and has served as the course director for the Introduction into Obstetrics and Gynecology  course for second year medical students since 1989. He is also on the OB/GYN staff at Scott & White clinic in College Station and the St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

 

In addition to his duties as a physician and educator, Dr. Sanders is an active researcher. Two of his research projects focus on the development of an educational evaluation instrument to measure medical students' ability to perform simple suturing, and the identification of predictors for ethical and emotionally healthy physicians. His areas of research include the process of teaching surgical skills, mental imagery, and disabilities. Dr. Sanders' latest focus on disability developed from his interaction with medical students with physical disabilities. Dr. Sanders has received numerous awards for his outstanding teaching abilities two of which are the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics and the Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award from Texas A&M University Association of Former Students. His colleagues and students have expressed the belied that Dr. Sanders "exemplifies professionalism, caring and compassion".

 

A fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. Sanders holds a B.S. from the University of Houston and received his M.D. degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He completed his residency at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas.
