Mary Elizabeth Herring teaches medical ethics, medical jurisprudence and professionalism as well as topical presentations on practice management and medical law. She also served on the faculty of the Family Practice Residency Program of the Brazos Valley from 1996-2002. Her past teaching experience includes undergraduate business law in the Department of Management, College of Business Administration. She has published articles in The Journal of Vascular Surgery, The Journal of Graduate Medical Education, Texas Family Physician, and the publication of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians.  Ms. Herring spent six months as a reseacher/observer with the Texas Medical Board.

Ms. Herring was born in the Mississippi Delta and grew up in Fort Worth, Texas.

Education

She is a graduate of Texas A&M University, receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1983. She received her law degree from South Texas College of Law in Houston in 1986.

After law school, Ms. Herring maintained a solo practice in Austin, Texas. In 1989, she accepted a position with the Office of General Counsel for the Texas A&M University System. She joined the College of Medicine in 1991, serving as Special Assistant to the Vice President for Health Affairs and teaching in the Department of Humanities.

Ms. Herring is an active supporter of students at Texas A&M, and has advised numerous student organizations, including the Corps of Cadets, Aggie Bonfire, the Muster Committee and the Beta Theta fraternity, as well as serving on various college and university committees.

Prior to moving beyond the city limits, she served on the College Station Planning and Zoning Commission. She is a member of Ducks Unlimited, the Rotary Club International and served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Faculty Club and on the Maroon Club Board. Ms. Herring resides on a small ranch in rural Brazos County. She is an avid reader and enjoys hunting, fishing and cooking.

Her professional memberships include the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, the American Health Lawyers Association, the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics and the American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics.
