The Graduate Program

The Graduate Program in Medical Sciences with the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine provides a broad background in basic sciences with focus on applications of this background to medical problems. The research emphasis is in the interdisciplinary studies that has six potential research areas: Biochemistry & Structural Biology (BSB), Systems & Integrative Biology (CIB), Cell & Molecular Biology (CMB), Microbial & Molecular Pathogenesis (MMP), Neurosciences (NS), and Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics (PET). More information on the interdisciplinary graduate program can be found on their website at http://medicine.tamhsc.edu/graduate-studies. Our graduate program also interfaces with several other graduate programs, departments and research centers on campus, including Genetics, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry and Veterinary Medicine and is designed to help students develop their individual goals and interests. There are active faculty research programs in angiogenesis; extracellular matrix biology; transcription factors; biomaterials; drug delivery; regulation of TGF beta signaling; protein synthesis, folding and trafficking; endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD); bacterial pore-forming toxins; initiation of eukaryotic DNA replication; GTP-binding proteins; chemoresistance, p53 and cancer; transport across nuclear, bacterial and mitochondrial membranes; stem cells and regenerative medicine; and ion channels.
