Family and Community Medicine
Mark English, M.D.
Mark W. English, M.D. received his undergraduate degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 1988. He completed his Family Medicine Residency in 1991 at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where he was selected Outstanding Intern (1988-89) and Outstanding Resident (1988-91).
In 1991, Dr. English began his clinical practice at Scott & White Clinic in College Station and joined the TAMU Medical School Faculty. He has been actively involved in teaching medical students during their first two preclinical years while serving as a preceptor for students during their clinical rotations since joining the faculty. Additionally, he has served as a community preceptor and volunteer board member for the local Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. English is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. He is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine. Internal Medicine
Joseph Roman, M.D.
Joseph J. Roman, M.D. received his Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics from Texas A&M University in 1997. He attended Texas Tech University where he received his Medical Degree and Masters in Business with emphasis in Health Organizational Management in 2003. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Oklahoma in June 2006 and was the Chief Medicine Resident through June 2007.In July 2007, Dr. Roman began his clinical practice in association with the College Station Medical Center. He has been actively involved with the Texas A&M University Health Sciences Center College of Medicine as a Clinical Preceptor since 2008. Dr. Roman is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a member of the American College of Physicians and Texas Medical Association. Obstetrics & Gynecology
William Price, M.D.
William F. Price, M.D. received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch - Galveston in 1975. He completed his residency in Obstetrics/Gynecology at the University of Texas Medical Branch - Galveston in 1978. He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.Dr. Price practiced OB/GYN for twenty years in Longview, Texas before returning to Bryan/College Station to open his private practice in 1999. He joined Scott & White OB/GYN department in June of 2008.Since returning to Bryan/College Station he has been actively involved in independent research as well as medical education for both medical and nursing students. He maintains professional associations with multiple professional organizations including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Medical Association and the Texas Medical Association. Betty-Ann Svendsen, M.D.
Betty-Ann Svendsen, M.D. received her medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock, Texas in 1995. She completed a pediatrics residency at Scott & White in Temple in 1998. She maintains board certification as a Pediatrician through the American Board of Pediatrics. In 2007 Dr. Svendsen was named Texas A&M University Health Science Center Preceptor of the Year. Dr. Svendsen has maintained a Pediatrics practice at Scott & White Clinic in College Station since Sept, 1998. She is actively involved as a faculty member for Texas A & M Health Science Center mentoring medical students through all phases of their medical education. Darlene McLaughlin, M.D.
Darlene McLaughlin, M.D. joined the TAMHSC College of Medicine in 2009 in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. Dr. McLaughlin graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a BS in Biology and Chemistry. She completed both medical school and residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas as well as a rotating internship at Louisiana State University. Co-Director: Bruce Hoak, M.D.
Bruce Hoak, M.D. graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas A&M University, Class of ’79. He captained the varsity swim team and was named Outstanding Student in the College of Science. Dr. Hoak continued his training at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, receiving his M.D. in 1983. He completed his residency at West Virginia University, Charleston Division, where he earned the Dean’s Prize and was named Outstanding Chief Resident. Dr. Hoak has been practicing in Bryan/College Station in general surgery since 2001.
Co-Director: Bryan D. Parrent, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Bryan David Parrent, M.D. grew up in Plano and graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University in 1996 with a BA in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. Dr. Parrent pursued his medical degree from TAMHSC College of Medicine, graduating with honors. He completed his residency and internship training at Baylor University Medical Center performing and perfecting his skills in general and bariatric surgery. Upon completion of his training, Dr. Parrent relocated to the Bryan/College Station area to join General and Bariatric Surgical Associates where he has built a successful and thriving practice. Dr. Parrent is a member of the American Board of Surgeons and was board certified in March of 2006 in General Surgery and became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 2008.
