March
It has certainly been a busy month with many events going on at the college. We had a very successful Mini-Medical School this year. Our faculty did a great job, and we had an outstanding response from the community. All sessions were well attended, and the participants were very enthusiastic about the program and the college. I am very excited about the potential of this program. It is a great service to the community, and we get people talking about the College of Medicine.
May
It's hard to believe that we are almost finished with another academic year! I know the students are excited to be completing another leg of their journey through medical school. It has been a great year, and I am excited about all the changes on the horizon at the COM. It is certainly an exciting time to be a part of the College of Medicine.
November
As we head into the holiday season, we remain on status quo with many of the items I reported on last month. The Board of Regents will meet later this month, and may decide on a location for the new HSC campus. Once that decision is made, we will be able to move forward with planning for our new building. At this time, we have several faculty and staff members involved in the campus planning process as well as the building planning process. Dr. Rod McCallum is spearheading the campus planning process for the HSC. Also of note, on December 4, we will be hosting seven student groups from the College of Architecture who will present their ideas for the creation of a modern Health Science Center complex. As the date draws nearer, we will provide additional detail.
October
I hope everyone is enjoying our cooler weather now that fall is officially here! It certainly has been pleasant. I am going to keep this brief, as several folks submitted information this month, and the e-newsletter is a bit lengthy.
September
I hope everyone’s semester is off to a good start. Our new students are enthusiastic and seem to be adjusting well to medical school. It’s always great to get to know a new group of students. I recently met with the M1s to discuss our plans for class expansion and dual campus implementation as well as address any questions they may have. They were very interested in our plans, and had some excellent questions. I have also met with the M2s and M3s to provide all of our students with a good understanding of our class expansion plans.
