Dress Code Policy
Administrative Offices
All administrative staff members will be expected to dress in an appropriate manner, convey a professional appearance or image, and are encouraged to be neat and clean.
Dresses/Skirts
- No more than 1 inch above the knee.
- Slits should be modest and in good taste.
- Denim dresses and skirts are permissible.
- No shorts or skorts.
Slacks
- Should not be “skin tight”.
- Should be professional.
Blouses/Shirts
- No tank tops or spaghetti strap tops without another shirt, sweater or jacket worn over it.
- No sheer or see-through shirts are allowed.
- No t-shirts, sweatshirts or athletic jerseys.
- Shirts and blouses should come below the waistband when standing with arms at sides – i.e., no abdominal skin showing.
Shoes
- Open-toe shoes are acceptable as long as they are appropriate for the work place.
- No flip-flops, thong sandals, or beach shoes.
Personal Hygiene/Miscellaneous
- Hair should be clean, combed, and dry during work hours.
- Wet hair is not professional and is not acceptable.
- No odd hair colors (i.e., purple, green, etc.).
- No flamboyant/distracting hair styles (i.e., spiked mohawks).
- Always present oneself in a professional manner.
Team Wear
- Team wear includes approved items with the official College of Medicine logo and must be purchased through the Office of Student Affairs.
- Polos and oxford shirts with the College of Medicine logo may be worn with nice pants or a skirt.
- Sweatshirts, t-shirts and fleece jackets with the College of Medicine logo are for weekend wear only, not the office.
Jeans Policy
- With departmental approval, jeans may be worn on Friday or the last day before a holiday unless professional dress is necessary for a meeting or appointment.
- Jeans should:
- Be dark colored (avoid light colored blue jeans)
- Fit appropriately, not "skin-tight" but professional in nature
- Not have excessive fading
- Not have frays or holes
- Be worn with standard professional shoes (no tennis shoes or flip-flops)
- Be worn with a professional shirt or HSC/COM shirt (no T-shirts please)
Exceptions
- Jeans and athletic shoes may be worn on certain days for moving, doing “dirty work”, and for certain events. Jeans must not be torn or frayed.
