Planning Process for the Strategic Plan
In January 2011, the Dean held his first planning retreat which included the College’s senior leadership, senior administration, the College’s key medical affiliates and student leaders.
Prior to the planning retreat, the Dean assessed the College’s primary priorities and provided an overview of his assessment at the start of the retreat. During the retreat, planning work teams were assembled to create strategies to support each of the key planning priorities. During the next five months following the retreat, planning work teams continued to refine strategies, tactics, timelines, performance measures and outcomes. In addition units within the College were designated responsibilities in association with plan strategies.
Subsequently, planning meetings were held with the planning work teams and the responsible College units to ensure continuity of communication regarding strategic plan content, performance measures, timelines, expectations and outcomes.
The current strategic plan began construction in January 2011. In April and May, planning work teams submitted revisions for their respective section, and in June a plan draft was distributed to members of the planning work teams for content review and comment. Also in June, copies of the draft strategic plan were distributed to the nearly 80 College staff members in attendance at the College’s staff retreat. Comments were returned thru the month of July, and the plan draft was finalized in August 2011.
In December 2011, the final content of the plan was constructed, reviewed and approved by members of the strategic planning retreat attendees who comprised the planning work teams and the Dean. (See attachment for members of strategic planning work teams.)
The College strategic plan is reviewed and updated annually. However, quarterly progress reports are to be collected from the units responsible for implementing strategies supporting the plan.
