The Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine enjoys substantial extramural funding from numerous sources, including the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Department of Defense, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Texas State Board of Higher Education, Pharmaceutical Manufacturers of America Foundation, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, The Gates Foundation, and The Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). Total research expenditures for the year 2011 exceeded $35 million.
