Driscoll Children's Hospital

Driscoll Children's Hospital is a non-profit, 188 bed specialty hospital dedicated to the care of children from prematurity to 21 years of age. Driscoll is one of the six freestanding children's hospitals in Texas and serves all of the children in the 26 countries that make up South Texas. Approximately 45% of Driscoll patients are from Nueces County with the remaining 55% originating from the South Texas counties making up the triangle of Victoria to the north, Laredo to the west, and Brownsville/McAllen to the south.

In 1945 Clara Driscoll's will established the Robert Driscoll and Julia Driscoll and Robert Driscoll, Jr. Foundation for the "construction, equipment, and operation of ... a hospital for crippled, maimed, or diseased children". In 1953 Driscoll Foundation Children's Hospital was dedicated and continues to operate as living testimony to Clara Driscoll's love for the children of South Texas.

DriscollThe Driscoll medical staff is represented by over 200 pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other physicians - who represent over 32 specialties specially trained and experienced in the care of children. We have an active Cardiothoracic Surgery Department, a Transplantation Service, a 20 bed PICU and a 43 bed NICU. Driscoll Children's Hospital is a fully accredited teaching facility affiliated with The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center College of Medicine. For over fifty years, Driscoll Children's Hospital Pediatric Residency Training Program has been the center of pediatric teaching, education and training in South Texas. Driscoll Children's Hospital is licensed as an acute care hospital by the State of Texas and nationally accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations.

We offer fourth year electives in most of the pediatric subspecialties and provide housing that is within walking distance of the hospital, on a first-come, first-served basis. Meals and parking are also provided without charge.
