Information for Visiting Students
Texas A&M HSC College of Medicine will be using VSAS, the Visiting Student Application Service, to receive visiting student applications for the 2012-2013 academic year. Applications may be submitted through VSAS starting on April 2012. We will not begin scheduling electives until May 2012.
We do not accept students from international colleges and medical schools.
- Electives are designed as 2 or 4-week modules. No one-week electives will be scheduled. However, electives of varying lengths are allowed in accordance with the requirements of the student's own school, if this is approved by the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine (TAMHSC-COM) Elective Administrator and the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs.
- The TAMHSC-COM fourth year Academic Calendar indicates the standard dates for electives. All electives start on a Monday.
- Elective Opportunities are limited to students enrolled in LCME (Liais on Committee on Medical Education) or American Osteopathic Association accredited schools only.
- Certain elective opportunities are limited to TAMHSC-COM students as indicated on the elective description.
- All scheduling of electives is managed by the Office of Student Affairs and all communications should be through that Office.
- Students should review the information contained herein for the specific requirements of certain electives and should provide such information before arriving in Temple.
- Professional liability coverage of $25,000/75,000 must be in effect before a student can be scheduled for an elective.
- Each student is required to have a health insurance plan which will cover health related expenses which may occur while in Temple.

Limited affordable housing is available to extramural students. Further information and an application for housing will be sent to the student after elective approval.
Elective scheduling procedure:
- Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine will be using VSAS, the Visiting Student Application Service, to receive visiting student applications for the 2012-2013 academic year. Students will be notified of the status of their application by the Office of Student Affairs. - Elective scheduling for students from TAMHSC-COM is completed in the spring before proceeding with scheduling of electives for visiting students. Applications for visiting students will not be accepted before April 2012.
- Please note that the following documents are required (failure to provide will delay the processing of your application: Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine Immunization Form, Transcript, Picture, COMLEX or USMLE Step 1 and if available Step 2CK, Curriculum Vitae, and Verification of cleared criminal background check.
- Visiting students may schedule electives for a period of 8 weeks. Up to 20 weeks may be taken with the approval of the Office of Student Affairs provided that monitoring of the first 8 weeks yields successful results. The Dean reserves the prerogative to further extend electives time beyond 20 weeks.
