About the Department of Humanities in Medicine

The Department of Humanities in Medicine, founded at the inception of the college, is a charter department in the School of Medicine.

Mission: To infuse medical education with, and engage in scholarly activity around, humanities, the arts, ethics, leadership, altruism to provide excellent, holistic, and patient-centered care for the people in Texas and beyond while instilling our learners with the core values of Texas A&M University.

Vision: Keeping Medicine Human - Equip learners in medicine with the ability to effectively address quality of care, patient access, health disparities, and never overlook that patients, caregivers, and physicians are human beings.

In the process, we will enhance/instill respect for history, traditions and diverse heritage of our patients and fellow professionals. We will do this by focusing on these core set of attributes:
