AUSTIN, Texas (April 8, 2009) -- Dr. Bob L. Shull, Professor and Interim Chair for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Scott & White Hospital and the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, was presented with a lifetime achievement award on April 4, 2009 at the 80th Annual Joint Meeting of the Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists/ACOT District XI in Austin.

The Baden-Gibbs Award is presented annually to a member of the organization who has exhibited a lifelong commitment to foster and stimulate improvements in women's health care and within the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and who has exhibited outstanding leadership in medicine in the state of Texas.  The award, which was founded in 1998, is named after two pioneers in Ob/Gyn in the state who worked diligently to meld three different specialty organizations into the current association that exists now.

Dr. Shull is an internationally recognized leader in the field of incontinence and pelvic surgery in women.  He has served as Vice-Chair of the Department of Ob/Gyn for many years, and is currently serving as Interim Chair.  He is a past President of the Texas Association of Ob/Gyn, past Chair of the Texas Section of the American College of Ob/Gyn, and a past President of the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS).  He is a noted educator, presenting medical education courses all over the world in the field of pelvic surgery, and he has been actively involved in teaching residents and medical students at Scott & White during his entire career.

About the Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists - The Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, a physician membership organization devoted to improving the health care of women in Texas, was founded in 1929.  Along with its national counterpart, District XI of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, it represents over 3,000 practicing Ob/Gyn physicians in the state of Texas.
