AMA President-Elect Rohack to Present Huffines Lecture

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (April 13, 2009) - J. James Rohack, M.D., president-elect of the American Medical Association College and professor of internal medicine and humanities in medicine at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, will speak on "An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Healthcare Costs" at the inaugural J.L. Huffines Distinguished Lecture on Wednesday, April 15 at the Reynolds Medical Building. A reception will be held at 6 p.m. in the lobby, followed by Dr. Rohack's presentation at 6:30 p.m. in Lecture Hall 1.

The event is sponsored by The Sydney and J.L. Huffines Institute for Sports Medicine and Human Performance at Texas A&M University and hosted by the College of Medicine.

Dr. Rohack, who will assume the American Medical Association presidency in June, is the first speaker in the J.L. Huffines Distinguished Lecture series. A board-certified cardiologist, Dr. Rohack is actively involved in patient care at Scott & White Clinic, where he serves as the director of the Center for Healthcare Policy and as the medical director for system improvement of the Scott & White Health Plan-a not-for-profit health plan that is nationally recognized for quality health care delivery.

Dr. Rohack's past leadership responsibilities include president of the American Heart Association's Texas affiliate, president of the Texas Medical Association (TMA), chair of the TMA Council on Medical Education and member of the TMA board of trustees.

The Sydney and J.L. Huffines Institute of Sports Medicine and Human Performance was approved by the Board of Regents at Texas A&M in 1999. The Institute was created to facilitate an active interchange of information and research findings among strength and sport conditioning coaches, athletic trainers, sports physiologists, clinical physiologists, and rehabilitation specialists. 

The public is welcome to attend, however registration is required as seating is limited.
