COLLEGE STATION, Texas (January 16, 2009) - Ian Murray, Ph.D., assistant professor of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, will be the speaker at the January 20 Café Scientifique meeting in downtown Bryan. The event takes place at 7p.m. at Revolution Café and Bar, located at 211 B South Main Street.

Café Scientifique is a worldwide program that serves as a forum for exploring science and technology, and its meetings are always held outside a traditional academic context.

Dr. Murray will also be interviewed about his research on the radio program "Biased Transmissions "on KEOS 89.1 FM at 6 p.m. on January 21.

Dr. Murray's main areas of research focus are diseases of aging such as Alzheimer's disease. He is currently demonstrating how free radical damage contributes to Alzheimer's disease development and developing markers for earlier disease detection, as well as testing specific drugs to prevent or ameliorate Alzheimer's disease.

This research will significantly advance the research field, and upon translation to clinical and diagnostic, will likely aid the development of effective therapy and prevention strategies.
