Skip breadcrumb navigation ATLANTA, Georgia (November 22, 2005) –- Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is pleased to announce Tiffany J. Riehle, M.D., M.S.E. as the 2005 recipient of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Young Investigator Award. Dr. Riehle completed her research during fellowship training at the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Sibley Heart Center – in collaboration with Sibley Heart Center Cardiology (SHCC) and the Divisions of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Anesthesia of Emory University School of Medicine. She is currently conducting congenital heart disease research at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Prior to joining the SHCC fellowship program, Dr. Riehle received her bachelor's and master's degree in engineering from Tulane University and obtained her medical degree from the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine.

"We are honored that the recipient of this prestigious award participated in the Sibley Heart Center Cardiology fellowship program," said Derek Fyfe, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Academic Officer of Sibley Heart Center Cardiology. "Dr. Riehle's accomplishments reflect the values and dedication that we continuously work to achieve at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta."

Established in 1968, the AAP sponsors the Young Investigator Award for the best research paper in basic science education or clinical science in the field of pediatric cardiology. Dr. Riehle's abstract “Real-Time 3-D Echocardiographic Acquisition and Quantification of Left-Ventricular Indices in Pediatric Congenital Heart Disease: Comparison to MRI” is a research-based study. Through her study, Dr. Riehle concluded that RT3DE can accurately assess the left ventricle in patients with congenital heart disease. A combined RT3DE acquisition and analysis machine can be readily utilized in clinical practice, perhaps preventing the need for MRI in some cases.

In addition to Dr. Riehle's report being submitted for presentation at the annual AAP National Conference and Exhibition, Dr. Riehle will continue to be recognized for her award each year by inclusion in the AAP's National Conference and Exhibition program. Children's is proud to recognize Dr. Riehle for her outstanding accomplishments in the field of pediatric cardiology.
