Faculty Success in the Marketplace: Research Development After Hours Workshop

Skip breadcrumb navigation COLLEGE STATION, Texas (April 28, 2005) - The Office of Research at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine is hosting a Research Development After Hours workshop, entitled “Faculty Success in the Marketplace” Wednesday, May 18 from 2-5 p.m. in Lecture Hall 1 at the Reynolds Medical Building. The three hour workshop will feature guest speakers who have become successful entrepreneurs by developing and commercializing leading edge technologies. The speakers will discuss the many aspects of expanding their research portfolio, including starting and running a small business, protecting intellectual property, financing, marketing, legal and human resources issues, plus many other topics.

About the Presenters

Guy Diedrich is the Managing Director of the Technology Commercialization Center. Mr. Diedrich served for eleven years as President and CEO of GRA Inc., a software development and consulting company that he co-founded and grew from a start-up to a firm employing more than 130 professionals. GRA was acquired in 1998 by a publicly-traded technology company. He also served as President of Austin Technology Ventures, a firm that invests in software, hardware and biotechnology companies.

Paul DeAngelis, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Oklahoma University Health Science Center College of Medicine. Dr. DeAngelis formed a company, Hyalose, LLC to develop and market Hyaluronic Acid (HA) for a wide range of medical uses. The total market for HA products is $3.8 billion annually.

Mary Pat Moyer, Ph.D. is a recognized biomedical scientist, entrepreneur and technology business leader. She founded INCELL Corporation and TEKSA Innovations after over 20 years as an academic scientist as Director of the Center for Microbiology, Cellular and Structural Biology, Pediatrics, and Molecular Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Gerard Coté, P.E., Ph.D. is a Professor and Head of the A&M Biomedical Engineering Department. Dr. Coté’s primary research is in optical biomedical sensing. He is currently developing novel biophotonic imaging that will be used for early-cancer detection. Dr. Coté is the owner of BioTex, Inc. which has secured over $6 million for product development, mostly through the SBIR program.
