Dyck Retires After 38 Years of Service

Skip breadcrumb navigation TEMPLE, Texas (March 27, 2006) - A retirement ceremony and reception will honor Walter P. Dyck, M.D., for his 38 years of service to Scott & White and the Temple community on Friday, March 31. For the last 10 years, Dr. Dyck has served as the Executive Associate Dean of the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine and as Chief Academic Officer for Scott & White. Dr. Dyck also holds the rank of professor of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Dyck received his B.A. from Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas in 1957, followed by his M.D. degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City in 1961. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit from 1961 to 1963 and research fellowships at the University of Zurich in Switzerland (1963-1964) and the University of Toronto (1964-1965). Dr. Dyck also completed an NIH fellowship in gastroenterology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York from 1966-1968. He received his appointment at Scott & White August 1, 1968.

"As a servant leader for more than 30 years for the College of Medicine and Scott & White, Dr. Dyck represents the best qualities of an academic physician," College of Medicine dean, Dr. Christopher Colenda said. "He is an outstanding and compassionate clinician, clinical educator, researcher and mentor to many students residents and faculty. His service to the institutional values of the college and Scott & White is without peer."

Dr. Dyck's retirement ceremony and reception will be held Friday, March 31 at 3:30 p.m. in the McLane Dining Room on the first floor of Scott & White Hospital.
