SNMA Hosts Bone Marrow Drive

Skip breadcrumb navigation COLLEGE STATION, Texas (November 30, 2006) – The Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine’s chapter of the Student National Medical Association hosted a Bone Marrow Drive yesterday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Reynolds Medical Building.

“The inspiration for the Bone Marrow Drive came from a member in another SNMA chapter that died from leukemia waiting for a transplant,” said second-year student Nitasha Thompson. “There is a great need for bone marrow donors, especially from minority populations, so this event was important for us to put together.”

Kelli McDonald, Scott & White’s Bone Marrow Program recruiter, was on hand to help the students and answer questions.

Organizers felt the event was an overwhelming success and were encouraged by the college’s response.

“We were amazed at the support from the College of Medicine students, faculty and staff,” Thompson said. “We had 65 people sign up to be placed on the National Bone Marrow registry and an additional 16 are awaiting registration packets in the mail since we ran out!”
