Trzeciakowski Appointed Associate Head of Systems Biology and Translational Medicine

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (November 10, 2008) - Jerome Trzeciakowski, PhD has been appointed Associate Head of the Department of Systems Biology and Translational Medicine at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine. Dr.  Trzeciakowski will provide administrative support for the teaching, research and service missions of the department on the College Station campus. Dr. David Zawieja, Professor and Associate Head, will continue to play an identical role in Temple, where the department is headquartered.

Dr. Trzeciakowski received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Florida. After postdoctoral studies in cardiovascular pharmacology at Cornell Medical College, he joined our new College of Medicine in 1980 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Pharmacology and Toxicology and climbed the academic ladder to the position of Professor and Associate Head. Upon realignment of the basic science departments in 2005, Dr. Trzeciakowski became Professor of Systems Biology and Translational Medicine.

Dr. Trzeciakowski is an outstanding teacher, receiving the designation of Best Instructor in Basic Science five times. In addition, he received the Distinguished Teacher Award from the Association of Former Students and the Montague Scholar Award from the Center for Teaching Excellence.

Dr. Trzeciakowski's research focuses on mathematical analysis of biomedical problems. He has published papers on ligand/receptor interactions, chaos theory, multiparameter analysis of kidney failure and quantitative analysis of atomic force microscope measurements. Dr. Trzeciakowski has served on the editorial board of the American Journal of Physiology and the Journal of Ocular Pharmacology.
