COLLEGE STATION, Texas (May 29, 2008) – Robert B. Hash, M.D. will be joining the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine as Vice Dean for Academic Affairs July 7, 2008. Dr. Hash most recently served as Senior Associate Dean for the Mercer University School of Medicine campus in Savannah. Prior to that assignment, he was Mercer’s Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and served in the dean’s office since 2002.

“Dr. Hash brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, and we are eagerly anticipating his arrival in July,” says College of Medicine dean, Christopher C. Colenda, M.D., M.P.H. “I am confident in his ability to provide exceptional leadership in the arena of academic affairs, especially as we continue to hire new faculty, increase class size and grow our educational programs. I anticipate Dr. Hash will hit the ground running when he arrives.”

Dr. Hash received his M.D. degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1982 and completed residency training in Emergency Medicine at Louisville and Family Medicine training at Mercer.  He has been board certified in Emergency Medicine, is currently board certified in Family Medicine, holds a C.A.Q. in Sports Medicine, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. 

An outstanding educator, Dr. Hash taught sections of the Mercer curriculum in basic science, clinical skills, bioethics, family medicine and evidence-based medicine, and was awarded the Outstanding Clinical Faculty Award in Family Medicine in 2002. He served as an Assistant Team Physician for the Mercer Athletic Department since 2000 and has been on the Athletic Advisory Committee since 2004. Dr. Hash also has published numerous peer-reviewed publications and given many invited presentations.

Dr. Hash is involved in several community service endeavors, including Habitat for Humanity, medical mission trips and youth soccer. He is also a member of Rotary International.
