Autism Speaks Appoints Keith Young as Chair of the Autism Speaks Tissue Advisory Board
Autism Speaks is thrilled to announce the appointment of Keith A. Young, Ph.D., as Chair of the Tissue Advisory Board (TAB) of Autism Speaks. The TAB is the scientific panel that oversees the Autism Tissue Program that is a vital to Autism Speaks scientific mission to further basic biological research and the elucidation of the complex condition of the autistic spectrum.

2nd Annual Healthy Heart 5K Raises $2,400 for Charities
According to student organizers of the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine's 2nd Annual Healthy Heart 5K Run, held November 15, the event was an overwhelming success. More than 180 people registered for the run, with 120 actually taking the starting line on Saturday.

Medical Schools Increase Enrollment to Meet Physician Demand
U.S. medical schools continue to expand their enrollment to meet the country’s increasing demand for physicians, according to new data released today by the AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges). First-year enrollment at the nation’s medical schools this year increased nearly 2 percent over 2007, to more than 18,000 students—the highest enrollment in history.

"Disabled” Medical Student Set to Run Austin Marathon, Raise Funds for Charity

Cirillo Receives $2.1 Million Grant from Gates Foundation
Jeffrey D. Cirillo, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Microbial and Molecular Pathogenesis at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, has received a $2.14 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The grant, from the Gates Foundation’s Global Health Program, will support Dr. Cirillo’s work on real-time optical imaging and detection of tuberculosis bacteria. This is the first Gates Foundation grant received by any component of the Texas A&M University System.
