Sherwood to Lead College of Medicine as Interim Dean

(COLLEGE STATION, TX) — Edward J. Sherwood, M.D. has been chosen to lead the Texas A&M Health Science Center (HSC) College of Medicine as interim dean and Vice President for Clinical Affairs by HSC President Dr. Nancy W. Dickey. His full-time appointment became effective Friday, October 16.

“The College of Medicine is well positioned to grow both physically and academically over the next year,” Sherwood said. “The faculty will have my support as we build upon the accomplishments of the past seven years and strive for even greater excellence in education, research and clinical care.”

Since 2006, Sherwood has served the College of Medicine as Associate Dean for Veterans Affairs. He recently retired from the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) where he was chief medical officer. Before joining the CTVHCS, he served in several veterans affairs positions in Washington, D.C. and Amarillo, Texas. Sherwood currently serves as the chair of the Texas Medical Association Committee on Infectious Diseases.

Sherwood received his M.D., cum laude, from Boston University School of Medicine in 1975 and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Sherwood served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965-1969 with a tour of duty in Vietnam.

A dean search advisory committee chaired by Dr. Rod McCallum, HSC Vice President for Academic Affairs, has been formed.
