Mental Health Services

Mental health disorders strike millions of Americans - regardless of race, color, gender, age, and socioeconomic status - each year. Some disorders are mild, while others are more disabling and require intensive management and care. It is vital that Americans know that help is available.

The Scott & White Mental Health Clinic (MHC) is located on Scott & White Drive behind the main hospital and clinic buildings. Service hours are Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The telephone number of the MHC is (254) 254-724-2585

For questions after hours, call Scott and White On Call: 800-724-7037

The MHC is comprised of Child and Adolescent Services and Adult Mental Health. Clinicians from many different disciplines staff the MHC including psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed professional counselors and substance abuse counselors. All staff members have faculty appointments to the Texas A&M College of Medicine and as such participate in resident and medical student education.

Outpatient Mental Health Services

The following services are available at The Scott & White Mental Health Clinic:

  • Psychiatric evaluations
  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Couples therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Cognitive therapy
  • Hypnosis and biofeedback
  • Medication management

Inpatient Mental Health Services

The Inpatient Psychiatric Unit (STC-1) is located in the main Scott & White Hospital. This 21-bed unit serves patients 18 years of age and older. Since STC-1 is located inside a general medical/surgical facility, patients who also have significant medical problems can be treated here. Consultations with other medical services such as internal medicine, neurology, physical therapy, and orthopedics can be easily arranged to provide multidisciplinary treatment.

Child and Adolescent Services

The Mental Health Clinic serves the needs of children, adolescents and their families on an outpatient basis. Scott & White has three board certified child psychiatrists working in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Clinic. In addition to seeing children and teenagers who are hospitalized in the pediatric unit, Child and Adolescent Services also provides consultations to area pediatricians and schools.

Substance Abuse Service

The Alcohol and Drug Dependence Treatment Program (ADDTP) is an evening outpatient program for substance abusing adults. The program is led by a psychologist and certified substance abuse counselors and is based on a “twelve-step” model. Family participation is encouraged. Aftercare is available to patients who have successfully completed the ADDTP.

Emergency Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry provides emergency services geared towards crisis intervention. Consultations are provided to the Emergency Department on a 24-hour basis. Scott & White physicians can also access urgent care for their patients should it be needed at the Mental Health Clinic.
