Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship

Skip breadcrumb navigation This program is funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and supports research funding for medical students at one of ten different selected locations. The locations that currently have DDCRF programs include:
  • Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons (NYC)
  • University of Iowa Carver School of Medicine (Iowa City)
  • Harvard Medical School (Boston)
  • Mt. Sinai School of Medicine (NYC)
  • UC-San Francisco School of Medicine
  • UT-Southwestern School of Medicine
  • University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (Philadelphia)
  • Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine
  • Yale University School of Medicine (New Haven)
  • . University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine

If accepted to one of the programs, fellows are required to secure their own housing for the year. The DDCRF program supports a wide range of clinical and translational projects, and the subject that a fellow chooses to research is largely dependent on the location the fellowship. Each of the ten schools usually identifies potential DDCRF mentors ahead of time (usually listed on the program websites). Whether or not applicants have to choose a mentor/project before being accepted into the program is program dependent. If selected for an interview at the school, all interview costs are covered. Some programs elect for a telephone interview only. If applicants are required to select a mentor/project before being accepted, opportunities to meet with potential mentors occurs during the interview time. If applicants are not required to select a project ahead of time, a project is chosen once fellows move to that location for the year. Each school selects 4-8 fellows per year. Perks of the program are also location dependent. All programs give the same stipend amount (see individual websites), health insurance and travel funds, but many other types of funding are program dependent and listed on individual program websites. The Texas A&M College of Medicine has sent at least one student to the UT-Southwestern DDCRF and has had other students accepted to many of the DDCRF programs. Deadlines for applications can be found on the website.
