Family Medicine Interest Group

Skip breadcrumb navigation

Welcome to the Family Medicine Interest Group Webpage! The Family Medicine Interest Group's purpose is to stimulate and maintain student interest in a career in family medicine and to help these same individuals reach their goals within the profession.  Due to the newly constructed dual campus program, FMIG is expanding to provide services to both groups.

FMIG highly encourages students interested in family medicine to become members of the American Academy of Family Physicians.  AAFP membership comes with the opportunity to attend the National Conference of Students and Residents in Kansas City each year, a subscription to American Family Physician magazine, Strolling through the Match guidelines during 4th year, member discounts, and national-level leadership positions.  One-time dues of $15 are subsidized by the Texas Academy of Family Physicians.  Please go to http://fmignet.aafp.org/cgi-bin/studentapp.pl to become a member.

Temple Programs

The FMIG in Temple is primarily geared toward third and fourth year students.  One of the annual events hosted in Temple is a series called "Strolling Through the Match." These lectures are intended for fourth-year medical students during their residency program search. Faculty and staff of the Family Medicine Residency Program at Scott and White give their insights to searching for and interviewing at different residency programs. In addition, medical students are able to voice concerns and experiences to the staff and receive feedback to questions. As the clinical campus in College Station continues to develop, FMIG looks forward to partnering with Brazos Family Medicine Residency to host a similar series of programs for third and fourth year students at the College Station campus starting in 2010.

College Station Programs

The Family Medicine Interest Group in College Station is geared toward sparking interest in Family Medicine amongst first and second year students.  FMIG hosts several socials during the year during which students are able to spend informal time together and with residents and faculty members. Please check the most recent issue of the FMIG e-newsletter for the most current events.

Health For All Aggie Clinic

FMIG also strives to promote community service amongst all the students and therefore invites anyone enrolled in the College of Medicine to participate in Health for All, a community based free clinic.  Medical students volunteer the first and second Thursdays of every month from 5:00-7:00pm under the supervision of two licensed practitioners.  If you are interested in participating, please contact Wyntrea Cunningham.
