Health Circus

At the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, students not only receive a great medical education, they also have the opportunity to participate in "the other education" through involvement in more than 15 active student interest groups. These groups range from medical specialty interest groups to religious and community service organizations. The wide variety of groups available allows every student to get involved in the local community by working with fellow students with similar interests.

American Medical Students Association

AMSA is the largest independent medical student association in the nation. Being a member of AMSA gives you the opportunity to become involved in AMSA's action committees and their educational programs, publications and support networks.

Christian Medical Association

The Christian Medical Association (CMA) chapter at the College of Medicine has been taking a medical missions trip to countries such as Mexico for almost a decade.

Emergency Medicine Interest Group

The Emergency Medicine Interest Group is a student-run organization which provides exposure to various aspects of Emergency Medicine to those students contemplating a career in Emergency Medicine.

Family Medicine Interest Group

The Family Medicine Interest Group's main goals are to disperse information to those interested in Family Medicine as a career and to help these same individuals reach their goals within this profession.

Gold Humanism Honor Society

The Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) honors senior medical students, residents, role-model physician teachers and other exemplars recognized for "demonstrated excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service."

Graduate Student Organization

The goal of the College of Medicine Graduate Student Organization (GSO) is to encourage student participation in the affairs of the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, the HSC-Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and Texas A&M University, thus enhancing the quality and scope of graduate research education.

Health Circus

Health Circus, a traveling health fair designed to serve the surrounding counties of the Brazos Valley, is a student organized partnership between healthcare providers to improve the quality of life for children and adults by focusing on preventative medicine, insurance coverage, and a positive outlook on healthcare.

Internal Medicine Interest Group

The Internal Medicine Interest Group's purpose is to introduce the world of Internal Medicine and its countless possibilities to students. During the year, meetings are designed to spark student interests as well as provide an education in the field of Internal Medicine.

Martha's Health Clinic

Martha's Health Clinic is a student-run, free clinic in Temple, Texas housed in Martha's Kitchen. It was started in 1994 by two Texas A&M medical students, Eric Wilke and Eric Beshires, who saw a need for better health care for the homeless population in Temple.

Medical Association Teaching Children Health

Medical Association Teaching Children Health (MATCH) is a new organization on campus whose purpose is to promote essential healthy lifestyles among middle school children through education and mentoring.

Medical Ethics Club

Initiated and founded in 2009 by a group of students taking the first-year humanities course, the Medical Ethics Club seeks to engage students in discussion and education in ethical issues in the field of medicine. At frequent lunch meetings held throughout the year, different students present ethics topics and lead discussion among the club members.

OB/GYN Interest Group

The Ob/Gyn interest group is designed to introduce students to the world of Obstetrics and Gynecology as a profession and branch of medicine, increase awareness on women's health issues, provide an avenue of service and help prepare students on their path to residency.

Pediatric Interest Group

The Pediatric Interest Group's goals include promoting the pediatric specialty among medical students, helping those interested learn more about the profession and gain skills and experiences to prepare them for residency, and to advocate for our young patients.

Plastic Surgery Interest Group

The Plastic Surgery Interest Group is designed to offer students exposure, education, and opportunities in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Stand Tall Against Tobacco (STAT)

Stand Tall Against Tobacco (STAT) promotes tobacco prevention and cessation within a community by targeting middle school students in an interactive, educational program.

Student Community Health Initiative

SCHI serves as a health outreach program in Bell County. The organization was established in January 2009 and is run by first and second year medical students. SCHI holds an annual HealthFest involving many community organizations to offer health information and health screenings to Bell County residents. Also, SCHI holds regular immunization clinics for underinsured children through the TVFC program.

Student National Medical Association

SNMA is the nation's oldest and largest independent, student-run organization focused on the needs and concerns of medical students of color. Established in 1964 by medical students from Howard University School of Medicine and Meharry Medical College, the membership includes more than 5,000 medical students, pre-medical students, residents and physicians.

Texas Medical Association/American Medical Association

The AMA/TMA MSS chapter of the College of Medicine is organized to encourage medical student involvement in the AMA/TMA organizational meetings, programs, and activities at the local, state, and national levels.

Women in Medicine

The purpose of this organization is in accordance with the objectives of the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA). These are to bring together women medical students and physicians; to promote their education and training; to educate them and the public on health issues of women.
