Medical Ethics Club

Skip breadcrumb navigation

Initiated and founded in 2009 by a group of students taking the first-year humanities course, the Medical Ethics Club seeks to engage students in discussion and education in ethical issues in the field of medicine. At frequent lunch meetings held throughout the year, different students present ethics topics and lead discussion among the club members. These meetings provide a forum for students to express their views and at the same prepare members for the ethical challenges they will face in practicing medicine.

Plans for the future include a blog and website that will publish summaries of all discussions in club meetings as well as the latest in medical ethics news. On online forum will also be available for students to post their own responses and foster an ongoing conversation. Also, the club hopes to educate members on hospital ethics committees so as to equip them to serve in these groups at some point in their careers. As a service to the College of Medicine and Texas A&M communities, the club plans on providing lectures and mini-conferences led by experts in medical ethics. In these activities and more, the Medical Ethics Club will seek to “exhibit leadership, honesty, integrity, compassion, respect and self-discipline" through excellence in the field of ethics.
