ABOUT BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION

The Bryan-College Station campus serves as the headquarters of the Texas A&M College of Medicine. Medical education and research are conducted in the various buildings of the twin cities and include Clinical Building 1, the Health Professionals Educational Building, Medical Research and Education Building, and Reynolds Medical Sciences Building.

Clinical training in the third and fourth years takes place at the College's clinical affiliates:

A&M Integrated Medicine Program

The Bryan-College Station regional campus is home to the A&M Integrated Medicine Program, a longitudinal integrated clerkship that offers an educational program emphasizing continuity, innovation, ethics and service within a community-based health care system.

CLERKSHIP DIRECTORS & COORDINATORS

Our clerkship directors and coordinators assure that all of our medical students get the necessary curriculum required, utilizing an ever-expanding number of medical services and facilities in our community.

Family Medicine

Gabriel Neal, MD
Clerkship Director

Dr. Gabriel Neal is a clinical assistant professor and faculty member at the Family Medicine Residency Program. He received his degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and attended the Family Medicine Residency at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He has a Fellowship in Family Medicine/Obstetrics. His teaching interests are obstetrics, international medical missions, and bioethics. He received the Clinical Faculty Preceptor of the Year Award in 2011 and the Humanism in Medicine Award in 2001.

Dr. Neal was in private practice in Bryan-College Station from 2006-2013. He then practiced Family Medicine in the United Arab Emirates for three years before returning to join the Texas Family Medicine Residency Program as core faculty in 2016.

Obstetrics & Gynecology

Hector O. Chapa, MD
Clerkship Director

Dr. Hector O. Chapa received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. From 2000 to 2015, he served as the medical director and research coordinator for the Women's Specialty Center of Oak Cliff in Dallas. He is a published author of over 30 clinical articles and clinical commentaries. Additionally, he has served as a physician medical adviser to several national and international medical corporations, and has participated in several FDA clinical trials for gynecological surgery.

In fall 2015, Chapa joined the medical faculty of the Texas A&M University Health Science Center and is currently the associate director for the OB-GYN clinical clerkship. He is in full-time clinical practice at CHI St. Joseph Health System as an OB-GYN Hospitalist.

Pediatrics

Jessie Parr, MD
Clerkship Director

Dr. Jesse W. Parr received a bachelor's degree in zoology from Louisiana State University Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1969. He completed his medical degree at Louisiana State University School of Medicine at New Orleans in 1973. He completed his pediatric residency at Baylor Affiliated Hospitals in Houston, Texas Children's Hospital, Ben Taub General Hospital and Jefferson Davis Hospital. He has been in private practice in Bryan-College Station since 1976. He co-founded University Pediatric Association in 1978 with Drs. Ken Matthews and William Conkling, and has been in private practice as member-owner since. He has been a team physician for Texas A&M University athletic teams since 1983. His clinical interests are general pediatrics, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and other mental illness of children and adolescents, and medical aspects of sports activity.

Psychiatry

Darlene McLaughlin, MD
Clerkship Director

Dr. Darlene McLaughlin joined the Texas A&M College of Medicine in 2009 in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. McLaughlin graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a Bachelor of Science in biology and chemistry. She completed both medical school and residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, as well as a rotating internship at Louisiana State University.

Joshua Cabrera, MD
Associate Clerkship Director

Dr. Joshua Cabrera is a staff member in the college of medicine and clinical assistant professor. He received his degree from the University of Oregon Health Science Center and attended residency and fellowship and the University of Kentucky. He completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry. His teaching interests include child and adolescent psychiatry. Prior to working for the college of medicine he worked as a psychiatrist in Chinle, Arizona.

Surgery

Bryan D. Parrent, MD, FACS
Clerkship Director

Dr. Bryan David Parrent grew up in Plano, Texas, and graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in biology with a minor in chemistry. Parrent pursued his medical degree from the Texas A&M College of Medicine, graduating with honors. He completed his residency and internship training at Baylor University Medical Center, performing and perfecting his skills in general and bariatric surgery. Upon completion of his training, Parrent relocated to the Bryan-College Station area to join General and Bariatric Surgical Associates where he has built a successful and thriving practice. Parrent is a member of the American Board of Surgeons and was board certified in March 2006 in General Surgery and became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 2008.

CLINICAL EDUCATION LOCATIONS

CHI St. Joseph Health

CHI St. Joseph Health is based in Bryan, Texas, and provides the Brazos Valley with an integrated health care network of hospitals and clinics. CHI St. Joseph Regional Health Center delivers care in its modern, 310-bed hospital facility. Using the latest technology, CHI St. Joseph Regional Health Center offers complete services for emergencies, inpatient surgery, outpatient surgery and critical care cases.

CHI St. Joseph Regional Health Center is a health care center offering the community's only Level II Trauma Center, an extensive inpatient and outpatient surgery program, and is known throughout the region for its cardiac, cancer and rehabilitation programs.

Additionally, the CHI St. Joseph and Texas A&M Health Network will include 16 primary care locations, including pediatrics, housing 47 providers within a nine-county service area, offering access to expert specialists and ancillary services.

College Station Medical Center

The College Station Medical Center is the oldest healthcare facility in Bryan-College Station and provides a full array of services from maternal and fetal medicine, to cardiac care, to cancer care. The hospital and clinic were founded in 1931 in Bryan, Texas. Humana relocated the hospital from Bryan to its current location in 1997, and in 1998 the facility was renamed College Station Medical Center. The Med introduced cardiology services in the late 1980s and one decade later, the hospital began to focus on new technologies and built primary and specialty care offices on its campus.

Today, the Med is a 167-bed facility and a licensed Level III trauma unit. It is also an accredited Chest Pain Center, a certified Primary Stroke Center and the region's first accredited sleep center. The Med provides a full array of medical services that include cardiac, pediatrics, obstetrics, general and specialty surgery, cancer treatment, inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient physical therapy, and a dialysis center.

Baylor Scott & White Health

The Scott & White Clinics and Hospital in College Station, Texas, are part of the largest multi-specialty practice in Texas, Baylor Scott & White Health. Scott & White in College Station houses more than 100 healthcare providers and offers 25 key specialty services for adults and children, making it the largest group practice in the Brazos Valley.

Scott & White was founded in 1897 by Dr. Arthur C. Scott and Dr. Raleigh White and has become the state's largest multi-specialty group practice and a nationally recognized teaching hospital with facilities across Central Texas.

Physicians Center Hospital

The Physicians Center Hospital (TPCH), based in Bryan, Texas, is a medical and surgical hospital focusing on outpatient procedures. It is known for joint replacement and gynecologic surgery excellence. The hospital has also received numerous awards for its excellence in orthopedic, spine and gynecologic surgery.
