October 2018: Update
Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that Hubert Amrein, PhD, currently professor and associate head of the Department of Molecular and Cellular Medicine, has accepted the position of vice dean of research for the College of Medicine.
With his new role, Dr. Amrein will provide important administrative leadership for the college research enterprise as we focus on excellence. The College of Medicine's research portfolio and ranking, including at NIH, is increasing. We are poised to further advance the research enterprise of our college and Texas A&M and to contribute discovery and innovation for the nation and beyond. We are thankful for the work of Dr. Amrein as director of research faculty development, where he has worked to strengthen research submissions and success of research grants. We look forward to what he can accomplish in this new role to help further increase the impact of the research performed by our students and faculty.
Dr. Amrein is a nationally and internationally recognized researcher in the field of behavioral neuroscience, with a focus on elucidating the molecular and neural basis of sugar and amino acid sensing. He has served on NIH study sections and will bring great experience and vision into this role.
I would also like to thank the research advisory committee, the faculty, department heads, and college leadership, who helped select Dr. Amrein from a pool of strong candidates for this important role.
Best,
Carrie L. Byington, MD
