Denver Harbor Clinic

Established in 2001, Vecino Health Centers was founded by a group of local pastors to address the need for primary health care in Houston's community of Denver Harbor, a poor but stable Hispanic neighborhood in Houston's historic East End. Most of the community's 20,000-plus residents had extremely limited access to medical care and were resorting to emergency rooms for basic health care needs.

Denver Harbor Family Clinic, the first Vecino Health Center, began operations in the upstairs of a church until the site of a former cantina was transformed into the clinic's first facility in 2004. With the help of the local and national philanthropic community, federal funding and a partnership with The Methodist Hospital's Family Medicine Residency Program, Vecino Health Centers has expanded both impact and services.

The residency program has been in existence for over 15 years and has been associated with both the Denver Harbor Clinic and the Methodist Hospital since 2005. These collaborations allow the clinic to provide medical care and education across the full spectrum of medicine and society. The Denver Harbor Clinic is a federally qualified health center that provides primary care to an urban, underserved population in the heart of Houston. The Methodist Hospital is a tertiary care facility located in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center® that is truly at the forefront of medical care, education and research in the United States. Together, this combination allows our trainees to have an educational experience that is unique in opportunity and exposure.
