How do I apply for the EDHP program?
Students must follow the graduate admission standards that are set by Texas A&M University. Review the admission criteria.

What do I need to know before I apply?

Applicants should be prepared to supply the following information on the application: 

  1. A list of any courses to be completed during the present semester (if applicable). 
  2. Scores of GRE, MCAT, DAT, PCAT or LSAT (only those who have not already completed a terminal degree. See question 4 for more information).
  3. Allow enough time to order transcripts from all institutions from which a degree was awarded.
  4. Three individuals as references. 
  5. A list of any awards or honors received. 
  6. A description of any research, work and teaching experience relevant to goals for graduate education. 
  7. A statement explaining why you should be accepted into the EDHP program.
  8. A statement describing your field of interest, objectives of your educational program and educational career. 

How do I track my admission status?
After submitting your application you will receive an email with your Universal Identification Number (UIN) and instructions to access the Applicant Information System (AIS). Check AIS regularly to ensure all documents have been received.

  • Allow two to three weeks to process each document submitted via the PREFERRED METHOD.
  • Documents submitted within one month of the deadline or submitted using a non-preferred method may not be noted as received until after the deadline.
  • Bring any discrepancies regarding your information to our attention immediately via Contact Us on AIS.
  • Your admission decision will be posted on the AIS.

Is there an entrance exam requirement?
Yes, all students must have an entrance exam. Students who have already completed an entrance exam for their primary program of study (DAT, MCAT) do not need the GRE. Students who must take the GRE must score a minimum of 146 (400 on the old scale) in the Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning sections. Students must also score a minimum of four in the Analytical writing section. Applicants who possess terminal degrees (MS, MD, DDS) do not need to complete an entrance exam.

What are the required documents I need to submit with my application?
The list of required documents can be reviewed online under the Required Documents section. There are also additional documents the EDHP program requests. Review the list of items also required for admissions under the Department-Specific Required Documents section. In addition to the documents listed under the Required Documents and Department Specific Required Documents sections, we will need proof of your professional and educational abilities (residency, fellowship, coursework in the United States), as well as terminal degrees.

How do I submit my required documents such as letters of reference, statement of purpose and my resume or curriculum vitae?
Students will complete the statement of purpose on their ApplyTexas application. Applicants will need to utilize the Applicant Information System (AIS) to upload a resume or curriculum vitae. Letters of reference will also be communicated through AIS. Specifically, an applicant will provide emails of the three individuals who have been identified to provide a reference.

What do I submit if I am a practicing dental hygienist?
All dental hygienist who apply must submit the documentation noted below in addition to the other documents listed. You may upload the scanned documents to the Applicant Information System (AIS).

  1. Scores from the National Board Dental Hygiene examination
  2. Copy of Dental Hygiene license from any U.S. state

Note: You must have graduated from an accredited dental hygiene program in the United States or Canada. If you are unsure your program meets this requirement, you can search your allied program through the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) website under the Find a Program tab.

Do I have to complete a thesis?
No, students can choose a thesis track or a non-thesis track. The non-thesis track requires students to complete a project. For more information, review the Thesis vs. Project track page.

What are my degree options?
Students may pick a 36 hour non-thesis track that requires a project or students can complete 34 hours with a thesis. However, all students must complete the 14 credit hours of the Core Education Curriculum. A full review of the EDHP curriculum.

Are there fee and tuition estimates?
Yes, applicants can view a tuition and fees table for residents and non-residents online.

What tools do I need to successfully participate in online classes?
Our courses are taught using the learning management system eCampus (or Blackboard). eCampus will work with multiple browsers. Run a browser check to ensure eCampus will support your browser and operating system.

What are the requirements for students whose native language is not English?
All applicants who are foreign students whose native language is not English must have a score of at least 550 paper-based, 250 computer-based or 100 on the internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination. A minimum score of 26 is required on the speaking component of the internet-based TOEFL examination.

How do I know if I am exempt from the English proficiency requirements for admission?
All applicants who are citizens of the following countries will be exempt from the English proficiency requirement for admission: American Samoa, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada (except Quebec), Dominica, Grenada, Grand Cayman  Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Liberia, New Zealand, Trinidad/Tobago, United Kingdom, U.S. Pacific Trust.

Test scores must be sent directly from the testing agency to be considered official. The institutional code for Texas A&M University for GRE and TOEFL score reporting is 6003 (Not Texas A&M University Central Texas. That is a separate institution.) Tests should be taken at least eight weeks prior to the appropriate application deadline to ensure timely receipt and processing of results. We will use your highest test score from one test date. Copies of test scores are not considered official, but they may help the university locate your official test scores and are therefore useful when the application is processed.

You may verify receipt of your official scores by contacting the Office of Admissions at the address below (e-mail is preferred). You will need to include your name (as given on test), date of birth, Universal Identification Number (UIN), type of test, date test was taken and date you requested scores be sent to Texas A&M University.

Will I earn an Aggie Ring?

Yes, EDHP students are eligible for an Aggie Ring. However, the track you pick will determine the criteria. A master's student completing a thesis will be eligible when you have defended your thesis. Due to ordering deadlines, you may order your ring at the beginning of the semester in which you will graduate. Your records will be reviewed prior to Aggie Ring Day to verify you have defended your thesis. If your records indicate that you have not defended your thesis prior to Aggie Ring Day, your ring will be held until all qualifications have been met. A master's student completing the non-thesis track will be eligible for an an Aggie Ring if you have completed 75 percent of the coursework required for your degree. Your degree plan must be on file with the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies in the Document Processing Submission System (DPSS).
