Medical Interests: International Medicine & Obstetrics/Women’s Health

Personal Interests: Music, traveling and coffee

I love this residency because: Everyone is treated like family. Not only is the work environment supportive, but this is one of the best programs in the country at training full-spectrum, rural family docs. Everyone arrives here with different backgrounds and foundations of knowledge and skill, but this program strives to help you become the best doctor you can be. Whether you want to do procedures, live overseas, practice OB, work in a hospital, or work in a clinic, you will get the training you need here.

Future Plans: I hope to someday practice medicine in South America. When I’m not doing that, I would like to live somewhere near family and practice full-scope family medicine including obstetrics. I also plan to learn Spanish and to travel as much as possible.

Kurtis Klecan

Personal Interests: Avid fan of the KC Royals, Chiefs, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Colorado Avalanche. Boating, softball, fishing, camping, tailgating, barbecuing, gardening and canning, playing with my dog Harley

I love this Residency because: Of its motto “training old school docs.” When I did my rural rotations in Kansas the docs there did everything from scopes to OB. This residency allows me to get trained in everything I need to be a rural doc. My fellow residents also made this place special. Moving away from Kansas was hard decision. Yet, after my wife and I visited here, we realized how much of a family this residency is. They not only made me welcome but my wife too. These are awesome people who I know will make this a fun three years in Texas. Also the town of Bryan-College Station has a lot to offer. It’s not too big. It’s just the right size and has plenty of fun to be had when you get those precious days off.

Future plans: Practicing in a rural Kansas town doing everything from clinic, to ER, to procedures, to babies. Buying a boat and a lake house hopefully somewhere in the Ozarks.

I love this residency because: This residency program is filled with genuine, hard-working, super intelligent people that I find myself wanting to be around even outside of work. I initially became interested in the program because of its emphasis in rural medicine and the amazing opportunities to put emphasis on scopes and/or OB, but the first day I stepped foot in the TAMFMR office, I fell in love with the people. I feel honored every day to train with such incredible people, people who go the extra mile for their patients, people who set time aside to make sure you are adjusting well to your new role as a physician, and people who want you to succeed in all aspects of your life, including roles such as a spouse, a parent, a Christian, and of course, a physician. Seriously, I believe it can’t get any better than this.
