Graduate Studies Admissions Overview
The Graduate Studies Admissions information and instructions pertain only to students applying to the following medical degrees:
- PhD or MS in Medical Science in College Station
- PhD or MS in Medical Science in Houston
- MS or Certificate in Education for Healthcare Professionals
Since each degree program may have its own specific requirements in addition to the MD application, carefully review the degree information for your desired program before submitting an application.
The Texas A&M Medical Science Graduate Program provides cutting-edge research training through our Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Science (MS) programs in medical science, administered in cooperation with the College of Medicine. Our programs provides a flexible and interdisciplinary curriculum with six diverse focus tracks that allow students to have a highly personalized and individually tailored training program.
Our students at Texas A&M, a Tier 1 research university, benefit from having access to many research areas not typically seen in medical schools such as veterinary medicine, chemistry and engineering.
With an average graduation time of five years and stipend support ($30,000) throughout your training, we are confident you will find that the Texas A&M Medical Science Graduate Program will provide a wide spectrum of exciting research opportunities and prepare you for a successful career upon graduation.
Application Requirements
All applicants to the Medical Sciences Graduate Studies program are required to submit the following:
- ApplyTexas Application and Application Fee
- Official transcripts
- Test Scores (GRE or MCAT)
- Three letters of recommendation
An applicant's file must be complete with all of the above items before it will be reviewed by the admissions committee. A four-year baccalaureate degree from an accredited university is required.
Research Experience
Students applying to a graduate program should have a strong undergraduate background in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, mathematics, and/or molecular biology. Three strong letters of recommendation indicating academic excellence, personal maturity, and exceptional motivation as well as interest in the experimental sciences are an important part of the application. The GRE general test scores are required for master's and doctoral programs. We will also accept MCAT scores in lieu of GRE scores for dual degree programs only.
Master of Science (MS) Funding
Applicants for the MS degree will not usually be considered for stipend support from the program. Thus, MS applicants must have independent support or have an identified faculty sponsor who will provide the stipend. MS applicants must submit a letter from the sponsor as part of their application materials, and the letter should indicate that the sponsor will provide training and stipend support.
