• Who are HOST volunteers?

Host volunteers are Texas A&M HSC College of Medicine alumni.

  • How many times can I use the HOST program?

You may submit as many requests as you would like, keeping in mind that you may not be matched in all cities.

  • Is my spouse able to stay with me?

This should be arranged on a case by case basis. Many hosts welcome spouses so be sure to indicate your request on the student registration form.

  • Can I stay with a host for more than one day?

This should be arranged on a case by case basis. Some alumni may agree to two day visits.

  • Where are HOSTs available?

College of Medicine alumni are located through the United States. As this is our first year for this program, we will contact our database of alumni and hopefully we will be able to accommodate your request(s).

  • How do I sign up for the HOST program?

Complete the on-line Student Registration Form. Office of Institutional Advancement staff will then contact alumni in your particular interview area to find an available host during your visit.

  • How far in advance should I contact my HOST?

Once a host is identified, you will receive contact information about your potential HOST. It will be up to you to call or email your host to share the details of your travel and interview plans. You should contact your host as soon as you receive their contact information. Provide him/her with your cell phone/email information. It is also a good idea to re-contact your host prior to your visit to reconfirm your plans.

  • What if my travel or interview plans change or get cancelled?

Contact your host as soon as possible to let them know about the change in plans. Also, please inform the Office of Institutional Advancement at bklong@medicine.tamhsc.edu or 979-845-8526 of your change in plans.

  • Do I need to do anything after returning from my visit?

Yes. All students are asked to send a thank you note to the alumnus who hosted your stay as soon as possible after your trip. The support they give you is a gift and your gratitude should be expressed for their hospitality.  Please take a photo of you and your host to submit to the Office of Institutional Advancement upon your return. You will also receive a brief on-line evaluation after each host visit that should be completed as soon as possible.

  • Who do I contact if I have questions about the HOST program?

Please contact Brenda Long, Director of Alumni and Community Relations in the Office of Institutional Advancement at bklong@medicine.tamhsc.edu or 979-845-8526.
