New PPC MCAT Requirements for 2013
Please be advised that on August 18, 2011 the TAMHSC College of Medicine Admissions Committee approved requiring all Partnership for Primary Care participants who interview and matriculate to the TAMHSC College of Medicine in Fall 2013 will be required to take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT).
- Students currently enrolled in the PPC Program WILL NOT be required to take the MCAT.
- High school seniors and fist year college students who are currently applying (application submission beginning December 1, 2011) to the program for entering year (EY 2012) WILL NOT be required to take the MCAT.
- Beginning with the 2013 entry year (application submissions beginning December 1, 2012 and closing February 15, 2013), WILL BE required to take the MCAT. The minimum MCAT score that must be achieved to qualify for medical school will be a total score of 25 with no section score less than 7.

Many rural communities across Texas, and some other areas of the state as well, lack adequate access to health care and face physician shortages. If you are from a part of the state without an adequate number of physicians and you've been considering a career in medicine, the Partnership for Primary Care (PPC) program may be for you.
This innovative program gives you the opportunity to pursue a medical degree without taking the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). While there are no shortcuts to a quality education, there is an alternative path to gaining entrance into medical school. The PPC program is designed to help qualified, dedicated young people get a foot in the door of the medical field. This will allow them to eventually contribute to improving health care in parts of Texas that need it most.
