Federal and State Scholarship Programs

The scholarships listed below are service oriented scholarships awarded by government agencies.

Air Force Health Professions Scholarship Program

The Air Force Health Professions Scholarship Program provides payment for all tuition, required fees, and textbooks as well as a monthly stipend. A service commitment to the United States Air Force is required.

Army Health Professions Scholarship Program

The Army Health Professions Scholarship Program provides payment for all tuition, required fees, and textbooks as well as a monthly stipend.  A service commitment in the United States Army is required.

National Health Service Corps Program

The National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program provides payment for tuition, fees, and other educational expenses as well as a monthly stipend in exchange for a service commitment after graduation.  After graduation, recipients must serve in a primary-care capacity in a National Health Service Corps approved position.

Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program

The Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program provides payment for all tuition, required fees, and textbooks as well as a monthly stipend.  A service commitment in the United States Navy is required.

Outstanding Rural Scholar Recognition Program

The Outstanding Rural Scholar Recognition Program is a state-funded loan forgiveness program that partners rural communities with health care professionals. You must be a Texas resident and commit to serving in a rural community to be considered for this program. Interested medical students who participate must complete post-graduation service requirements to have their loans forgiven.

Rural Communities Healthcare Investment Program

The Rural Communities Healthcare Investment Program is a state-funded program for practicing physicians in underserved Texas communities. This program can either reimburse a physician's loans or provide a stipend. A service requirement must be completed to successfully complete the program.

Texas Health Service Corps Program

The Texas Health Service Corps is a state-funded program to encourage resident physicians to pursue primary care specialties in underserved communities in Texas. The program provides a stipend of up to $15,000 per year. Fourth year medical students and resident physicians are eligible to apply.

U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps

The U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps is a federally-funded program that provides competitive pay and salary to practicing physicians who serve in locations determined by program administration. Participants in the program must have completed their undergraduate education and at least one year of graduate medical education.
